When I received this locomotive and coal tender, neither the engine nor the tender worked at all. As repairs, the locomotive's e-unit is new, even though you cannot see its black, bright blue, and light blue new wires in the rear of the cab. They are a lot thinner than the originals provided by Lionel. This engine runs smoothly in forward or in reverse. The rear trucks came from a used but hopeless 671. The trucks are painted to match the locomotive. The smoke unit heater is new. It smokes almost as soon as voltage is applied. You'd be lucky to get once around your layout with this engine before smoke begins to puff out. Because of the poor original paint, I've spray-painted both the engine, its trucks, and tender with black paint. The tender in the pics now has two pickup wheels from the center rail. In addition, I've installed a bright yellow LED in the tender's rear end that is connected to both truck rollers. I've added handrails around the tender's top rear, and grab irons at both front and rear. One rear corner of the tender was missing altogether. I've rebuilt that corner with my special mixture that had to be drilled to accept one of the grab rails. The tender still has some flat paint spots but they are not that noticeable.
