Hello, & Welcome to our Auction! Thank you to all of our bidders, buyers and future new customers! We know there are many choices on Ebay, and we appreciate each and every one of you! We have a large family that keeps bringing things for us to list and sell for them, as well as, quite a few family friends that are anxious for us to sell some of their goodies too! As long as this continues, we will be listing unique & interesting items, and we hope you will find something you like! ;) Up for your consideration is this wonderful vintage, handmade folk art, Mexican pitcher or jug, with the most enchanting decorations—it just shouts, “ Old Mexico ”! It is probably from the village of Tlaquepaque in the Guadalajara area of Mexico. These pieces were originally made for the tourist trade during the 1920’s-1960’s. This pitcher dates from the 1920’s, and is in the art deco style. The vivid colors used for the figures, with black outlining, and bands against the cream background, make this an outstanding piece! We always welcome expert info and advice from aficionados! ;) We recently received many pieces of Mexican pottery from an aunt’s estate, and will be listing them in coming weeks. She lived in Los Angeles, California in a 1920’s Spanish style home, and loved to collect and entertain, using these delightful pieces. As we were going through the numerous boxes we were “ charmed ” by the decorations, and as the clay was hand-mixed back then and not machine-mixed, the air bubbles and flakes that occurred during firing give each piece a character all its own, as does the non-uniformity of the shape and painting of the designs. The jug is very good condition for Mexican pottery of this age. It measures approximately 7” tall x 6” wide ( which includes the 1 ½” handle ), with a bottom diameter of 2 ¾”, and a top opening diameter of 2 ½”. It is impressed on the bottom, “MADE IN MEXICO” .
