#215 4c carmine, tied by black "BUFFALO/N.Y. double oval postmark, on cover locally addressed to Miss Sarah Greenagh, on Oak Street. On the back of the cover is a large black illustration of the "NEW HIGH-SCHOOL BUILDING. ERECTED 1883-4. SARATOGA SPRINGS. ENTIRE COST, $48,000." Scarce stamp on cover. 2009 Scott Catalog value for #215 on cover is $45.00. Includes the original 1 pg letter enclosure, datelined at Buffalo, N.Y., Dec. 2, 1888, from Thomas H. Gorman, who was a student at the Saratoga High School, but is now at Buffalo. Great content, including noting that this cover is "the last of my school envelopes". On a separate 1-1/2 pgs, he has written out his Class Song, and enclosed it with the letter. The letter includes: "Well! Now it is almost Christmas, and I am again so close to you I can almost touch you! I have saved the last of my School envelopes - just for you! Enclosed is a copy of our Class Song. Can you tell which part is that I authored?... I worked all the summer at the Green Grocers. Potatoes and Beans every day. In no time at all I could hold a bag of vegetables and tell you the weight without the use of the scale. I have much undiscovered talent! Our coach got stuck in some drifts and I discovered my talent for snow digging. It was a very cold experience! But we were all steaming after the chore. Mother had taken quite ill in September. Liberal doses of Celery Compound seemed to cure her. Vile, horrible stuff. It resembles the lubricating oil used for sewing machines, but smelled worse...." Fine.
