Please support the hard work and skills our artists put into creating these japanese dolls. An artist takes about 8 months and sometimes up to 1 year to finish a japanese doll- that's why these dolls are not cheap to produce. Dear Bidders, you're bidding on a post-war japanese BIjinga doll, made by famous Kyoto artist. Kyoto, for centuries, has been known for it's famous doll makers for their every attention to meticulous detail. She portrays a beautiful Bijinga. During the Edo period and especially during the Genroku era (1688 - 1703), popular culture flourished. New art forms like kabuki and ukiyo-e became very popular especially among the townspeople. Geisha or Noble Lady then would dress up lavishly, putting on high quality kimono gowns made of expensive silk. She portrays a beautiful Bijin, or beautiful woman, posing as she plays the japanese traditional flute made from bamboo, known as the Shakuhachi. It takes a lot of skills and practice to be able to play like a professional. In the olden times, special arts like these are only reserved for the elite class, or people of higher status, military rankings. She stands on a very nice wooden base, coated with very beautiful black-lacquer. Her face is the very typical Kyoto mild face, very serene and detailed expression. Her hair is adorned with exquisite kanzashi or hairsticks, and silver hairpieces. She wears 4 layers of kimono, all high class expensive silk. The outer kimono coat that she is wearing, off her waist is simple breathtaking. It is maroon red high-class Chirimen silk, 100% Kyoto made, with hand-painted hem done in Yuzen. Yuzen is traditional japanese art prints, very similar to Native Pacific Islander Batik printing, only more intricate and time-consuming to produce. The design is all done by hand and done in colors of gold and silver, with designs of ume- or japanese plum flowers. The upper kimono features high-class Kyoto Nishijin silk, with lavish embroideries of flowery designs. A lot of gold silk strings are used and shines when viewed at different angle. The obi obi is tied the traditional way, a bow at the back. Obi is also made of nishijin silk. It is grey with very nice fan designs. She is truly a breathtaking doll, with every attention to detail. Her face, hands and feet are made of gofun(crushed oyster powder mixed with glue) on resin. Age is Height is close to 22 inches tall. Doll has glass eyes inserted. Condition is mint for her age since she's been kept in a glass case when we acquired her. Everything about this doll is just so high class that you have to see it to believe it.
