This auction item is a set of 23 miniature (2.25” x 3.25”) leather-bound volumes of William Shakespeare , published by Knickerbocker Leather & Novelty Co. in New York . No publication dates were issued for these sets, but most were published in the early 20 th century ~1916-1920s. Included are: King Henry VI-Parts I, II, & III; King Henry IV-Parts I and II; King Henry V; King Henry VIII; King Lear; Macbeth; Merchant of Venice; As You Like It; Antony and Cleopatra; The Comedy of Errors-Venus and Adonis; Julius Caesar, Romeo and Juliet; The Tempest; Merry Wives of Windsor; Midsummer-Night’s Dream; Taming of the Shrew; Much Ado About Nothing; Twelfth Night; Othello; and Measure of Measure. All volumes are in Good or better condition. Most have slight to pronounced wear on the spines & edges; Taming of the Shrew has separated from the binding but is intact otherwise, and Julius Caesar has double-stamped gilt on the spine and cover. A few have small dog-ears but no major flaws to describe. The leather covers have the suppleness only age can impart, and are nicely dyed in various s shades of brown, red, green, blue, and black with textures ranging from pebble-grained to smooth. All have decorative endpapers, gilt spines and covers, and a portrait of WS on the frontispiece. All pages are very crisp and bright with no marks or tears and read more
