24 1/2" Meiji Japanese Imari Porcelain Dragon Platter
Flat-out fabulous; finest quality Japanese porcelain
W to begin? This is the largest, most impressive and finest Japanese Imari porcelain item we've ever offered, a HUGE round platter of exquisite design, superbly decorated and wonderfully preserved. It measures 24 1/2" diameter, and the decorative motif is classic Imari, and then some. Dragon, with phoenix, carp / koi, landscape, birds, butterflies and more, all done in hand-painted reds, greens, black, blues, lavender and other hues, all in grand style, with lots of rich gilded detail and boasting raised enameling, too. The underside is also abundantly decorated, in blue. We gush, but this is a spectacular item, a testament to The Craft, and in wonderful condition with no porcelain loss or damage - just a bit of scattered paint / gilt wear, though absolutely nothing out-of-the-norm for antique Japanese porcelain.
