Chalice and Paten: Silver and gold chalice and paten designed and hand crafted by Fratelli Tavani, Rome, Italy. The chalice and paten were commissioned and created in 1975. The chalice : The chalice is sterling silver. It is 7 ½ inches tall. The cup is 4 ¾ inches in diameter. The interior of the cup is gilded with 24 carat gold. The base of the chalice is 3 ¾ inches in diameter. On the chalice t are eight images in eight individual ovals: the four Evangelists (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) and Saints Peter, Paul, John the Baptist are depicted. The final image is of Christ (with I S Α Ω symbols). On the base, "Do this in memory of me" is inscribed in Greek ( " Τουτο ποιειτε εις την εμην αναμνησιν "). Intricate geometric designs fill spaces between the ovals. All is done by hand. The paten : The sterling silver paten is 6 ¾ inches in diameter. The plate is gilded with 24 carat gold. The bottom is engraved with the Greek cross and the letters IC XC NI KA (from the Greek "Iesous Christos nikai" meaning "Jesus Christ, Conqueror").
