Magnificent RARE vintage set of twelve MADEIRA the original enclosed card. The box is broken and torn at the corners and will be included if desired. The placemats are a gorgeous yellow-gold organdy with an exquisitely embroidered swirled design is each corner. The napkins have a beige linen center and a border done with the same yellow-gold organdy as the placemats. A single embroidered curved line separates the linen from the organdy. Absolutely stunning. Size - Placemats - 18" x 12 1/2" Napkins 18" 17 1/2" Constance Leiter used the same Madeira factory and embroideresses that Vera Marghab used. "The most expert needle-women available were screened and selected to do the very kind of work required. "Only the finest flax was used for this fine linen and is now rapidly becoming scarce." Her designs are comparable to Marghab's "best and will one day be reserved for museum collection" "To own or give a piece of Constance Leiter Linen is evidence of your discriminating taste and a compliment to the taste and understanding of the one who will receive it." Constance Leiter had a shop on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, MO. and was know nationally for her elegance and taste. I spoke to Sharyn Blond, who owns an exclusive boutique in Kansas City and who is carrying on the fine tradition of Leiter's designs. She told me that one napkin in this pattern sells new for $120.00 and the placemat is $185.00. Condition is excellent. The set appears to be unused. T are no holes, stains or weak areas. Some of the photos were taken prior to being washed and may show a few storage spots. These are now completely gone. Freshly washed and pressed for immediate use or gift giving. .
