This Necklace : This is a Gorgeous and unique, one of a kind, 18" Hawaiian Sunrise Shell Necklace with a beautiful 25.7 mm Red Orange Sunrise Shell, small Shells from the North Shore of Oahu and Silver Freshwater Cultured Pearls. The necklace is closed with an Austrian Crystal Toggle Clasp. Legend: Hawaiian legend suggests that in the late 1700's and most of the 1800's Sunrise Shells were thought to be sacred and would bestow special blessings on those who owned or wore them. It was also said that Sunrise Shells were the exclusive property of the Hawaiian Royal Families and that 'commoners' were not allowed to keep or wear them but were instructed to search for them and give them to their King and his family. The name Sunrise Shell comes from the beautiful colors displayed on these shells. One side is red/orange and the other side is yellow/pink. These colors are especially vibrant in the first light of dawn (or any sunlight) and thus have become known as Sunrise Shells. Where it's from : The Hawaiian Sunrise Shell or Pecten Langfordi (scallop shell) is found exclusively in deep waters off the Hawaiian Islands and occasionally they wash up on our North Shore beaches.
