This is a beautiful Megalodon Tooth from the late Miocene epoch that measures 2.25 inches diagonally and is in good to excellent condition . Some of its serrations are either chipped or worn, but they're mostly intact and the tip features a little bit of living wear from when the shark gnawed on some tasty prey. The back of the root on the labial side looks a bit odd, as if some of the matrix has been fossilized onto it. Otherwise the tooth is in great condition with no significant chips or wear, full bourlette and crown. No polishing or tampering of any kind was done to this tooth - what you see is how it looked when excavated from the Bone Valley region in Florida - an area that yields amazing colors in fossils - some of the best in the world! This is a Land Tooth and was NOT excavated from a river.
What makes this tooth so nice are the wide variety of amazing colors - the root is almost a pristine white (with visible nutrient hole!) which makes for a nice contrast with the orange and black bourlette , while the crown itself is a gorgeous blend of oranges, olives, blues and golds . It's teeth like these that make excavating in Florida's Bone Valley worth it. This would make an excellent display specimen for the collector or hobbyist or as a really nice piece of jewelry.
