Red Nichols and his Five Pennies
on 13 - 16" radio transcriptions
c.1952 Offered are 13 radio Transcription Discs (16") with 26 consecutive 15 minute radio programs featuring Red Nichols and his Five Pennies, programs 1 - 26. Each program features 4 songs by Red Nichols and his Five Pennies, including one with vocals by Dotty O'Brian, with lots of banter between Del Sharbutt, the MC, Red Nichols, and Dotty O'Brian. These are definitely cool tunes mostly in the Dixieland Jazz style.
The Five Pennies are comprised of: Joe Rushton-Sax, Kingsley 'King' Jackson-Trombone, Rosy McHargue-Clarinet, Rollie Culver-Drums, and Bobby Hammack-Piano.
Produced by the United States Marine Corp to be played in the States as a recruitment aide. These radio transcriptions were sent to radio stations all around the country. Issued in 1952 during the Korean War. These are all stamped with the date they played on KPDQ radio in Portland.
All the records are in VG+ to E condition. All play very well!
Over 6 hours of radio programs! Excellent chance to add to your Red Nichols jazz library.
AND, I will include MP3 recordings of all 26 programs on CD!
