2nd Gen. FAMOUS 1948 BABE RUTH Nat Fein Pulitzer Photo Starting Bid 99 cents !!! .... Absolutely NO RESERVE !!! DESCRIPTION The National Game’s Most CELEBRATED Image ! The photos in the final segment of our auction this week are "second-generation" photographs, issued at a later period than the image. They are mostly re-strikes from the old negatives done by the news services of United Press International, Associated Press Wide World Photos or a photo service that provided images for media use. The majority are vintage to the Post-1970's period unless indicated. The condition of these photos are generally about excellent in condition. T is some expected general handling wear as these were all obtain directly from a sportswriter's working library of news photos and wire photos and were subjected to handling and publication use. The majority of these carry a press stamp, a copy of the caption attached on the verso, and/or other written notations by a photo editor. Each one is authentic as described and provide an excellent affordable alternative for a collector. Many feature rare images w in some cases an original would either be impossible to obtain or simply no longer exist. This lot features one of the 20th Century’s most famous photographs ever taken. Captured by Nat Fein and the winner of the 1948 Pulitzer Prize in Photography, it is titled “The Babe Bows Out”. The 8” x 10” photo was issued circa 1960’s and is a 2nd. Generation photo made after the event happened for news service use by Culver Picture Services (pre-1962 as the address on the stamp has no zip code). T is some light wear and surface creasing all around but restricted to the borders and corners with the central image unaffected by the wear. The National Game’s most celebrated image and one of the 20th Century’s most iconic photographs, a 1948 1st generation Nat Fein piece would set you back $15,000 – $20,000 (and that’s if you could find a true period original).
