This item up for auction is a vintage dress helmet for the New York military. The buttons on the side of the hat are quartermaster buttons. We believe this helmet to be circa 1885. The back side chain is missing, however the hook is in place. The inside is stamped Ridabock & Co. Formerly Baker & McKenney, 141 Grand St. New York. P D BAIRD is written in caligraphy on the inside. The inside leather band is loose. The top of the hat does not remain firm, due to the weight of the spike. It still displays nicely on a firm head. The front has the 2nd Excelsior badge. The edge is black leather bound. The material is a felt like material with a couple of pin holes. Please see photo's for details. We will gladly combine shipments on purchases made within a one week timeframe. Please check our other auctions for more interesting items. Thanks for looking.
