Up for auction is a 2nd Series Erie #11 Cast Iron Skillet that has been cleaned and seasoned. It is 100% ready for worry-free use (please see info on cleaning/seasoning below). Age: 1886 - 1892 Size: #11 Markings: Erie, 11 B Handle: No Markings Heat Ring: Yes, Outside This skillet is Nickel Plated (a lot of it has come off) Cooking Surface: Smooth with light utensil marks/pitting. There is a place near the back that is kinda rough, it looks like it has somehow been scrapped. Measurements: Top (Rim 2 Rim): 12-7/16 Inches Bottom (Outside 2 Outside): 10-15/16 Inches Casting Flaws/Flaws: Pitting on the back, Nickel coming off, see cooking surface description and pics. Bow (Flat): There is a good downward bow in the middle based on the straight edge, but it does not extend below the heat ring. The last picture shows a straight edge on the bottom. There is little to no movement when sitting flat on the heat ring. Breaks/Repairs: None! Shipping: UPS with Tracking . This piece will be insured for the final sale amount. I am an avid cast iron collector/user! These pieces are a part of history that were made during a golden age. I do don't want them to get damaged in any way, so I take special care to package them correctly. I have many packing supplies and use what ever I feel will protect the piece the best; bubble wrap, high density foam, extra boxes, paper packing, ect. Cleaning/Seasoning Information: This piece has been cleaned and seasoned using the approved method of the Wagner & Griswold Society. It is 100% ready for worry-free use! I use 100% High Quality Food Grade Lye to clean the piece to bare metal. Using lye cleans any residue or contaminants from previous use or storage. After the lye, I use Antibacterial Soap and Stainless Scrubbers to prepare the piece for seasoning. I then apply oil to season the piece. Not all pieces will have a perfect uniform appearance, it maybe darker or lighter in some areas. This does not affect cooking in any way. All the supplies I use are new and changed regularly. Cast Iron Terms: Downward Bow - Usually the middle of the cooking surface is not flat and slopes downward towards the middle. Depending on the severity (and if there is a heat ring) this can cause the piece to not sit flat and have a wobble and/or spin on a flat surface. Upward Bow - Usually the middle of the cooking surface is not flat and slopes upward towards the middle. This may allow the piece to still sit flat on the edges or heat ring. Casting Flaw - Defect during manufacturing (pouring process) Utensil marks - Scratch's/scuffs caused by metal/hard cooking utensils. Pitted/Pitting - Erosion of metal either by oxidation or by extensive use over a sulphur-containing heat source Heat Ring - Raised rim around the bottom circumference of a pan, either to aid stability or improve heating efficiency Outside Heat Ring - Raised rim around the very edge of the pan, usually on early pans. Inside Heat Ring - Raised rim that is inset from the edge of the pan, usually on later pans. Smoke Ring - Term sometimes seen used to refer to a Heat Ring Fire Ring - Term sometimes seen used to refer to a Heat Ring Hammered - As relates to cast metal ware, a finish which mimics hammered metal, but is actually molded into the piece Maker's Mark - Figure or character, usually incised, added to a pattern to identify its maker Molder's Mark - Character or symbol, usually raised, added to the pattern or mold at time of casting to identify the molder EP - Erie, PA (Griswold) EPU - Erie, Pennsylvania, USA: One of several Griswold trademark designationsThis auction is only for the piece advertised, background items in the pictures are not included.
