These three plates are uniquely colored. The Acid washed grey silver blue and firey orange Pornic, the seafoam, sienna, lemon yellow and hot lava orange Vallauris, and the golden amber and rich brown Vallauris Starfish would all make a great addition to any oyster plate collection. Pornic has been a leading manufacterer of ceramics for centuries. The acid wash ate away the signature on the back of this plate. only 2 of the 8 plates that I have have letters of the Pornic name that can still be made out. It measures 10 inches across Vallauris is a small village near Nice and Monaco on the French Riviera. It is known since the end of the 19th century for fine arts and majolica. Vallauris majolica is representative of French Art Nouveau style in the beginning of the 20th century. Picasso lived in Vallauris a few years after WW2. Beautiful colorful majolica including oyster plates was hand made by famous French artists such as Massier and Fassy. These 2 plates are 9 inches wide. They are not signed France has a great wealth of oyster plates as a result of its thousands of acres of seacoast devoted to thier culture.
