We are offering a 3 dimensional painting by Chinese-Cuban artist, Haydee Scull. Ms. Scull was born and reared in pre-Communist Cuba, where she attended the San Alejandro National Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1952. She often worked in conjunction with her twin sister, Sahara. Her art is best described as humorously whimsical, portraying typical characters doing every day activities in Cuba and Miami. This painting is oil on canvas, which has been extruded into the bottom foreground and onto the base of the light post. The 3 diminsional man is standing in front of a Cuban street scene. Interestingly, he leans to one side because he has one leg shorter than the other, and wears a built up shoe on his left foot. In his right hand, he is holding two marachas and he is waving a small Cuban flag in his raised left hand. The street lamp on the right is also 3 dimensional. Two of the buildings are hotels, the Hotel Siboney, and the Hotel Sevilla Biltmore. The painting is in excellent condition, with the exception of a piece of the man's shirt is broken off. It is framed with rough sawn, pecky wood, and then the raised inner frame is covered with brushed brass colored metal. The sale of this piece will benefit our local Hospice.
