Matchlessantiques is offering Smiths and Collectors this 3 Pound ATHA TOOL CO. Blacksmith Sledge Hammer. This sledge is a great size for forging. It has a short hardwood handle that fits tightly. The handle has an old chip. The sledge has the Atha Trademark, the name ATHA under an "A" inside a horseshoe. It also is marked "3" for the weight. The hammer is also marked, "MADE IN USA, No. 760, 339". The face is in very good condition.NOTE : The 100 lb. Columbian Blacksmith Anvil IS NOT INCLUDED in this auction. The anvil is being offered in another auction.Atha Tool Co. has been said to have been making blacksmith tools as early as 1875. Atha was considered one of the three "major" blacksmith tool makers in business beginning before the turn of the 20th century. They were located in Newark, New Jersey. They were purchased / bought out by Stanley Rule & Level Co. in 1913, however Stanley retained their Trademark. They were well known for their quality and workmanship. The measurements are: overall length 9 3/4", head measures 1 7/8" x 4 3/8", weight 3 3/4 pounds. Lower 48 states s/h/i is only $6.00
