3 Owl Pins: Sterling Silver, Pewter, Mother-of-PearlDescription :
Up for auction are these 3 vintage owl pins.
The first one shown in photos 1 and 2 is made from sterling silver with a stylized design and is stamped on the back with a fish maker's mark and hallmarked with the word Sterling. One American company (Fishel) did use a fish maker's mark, but it usually contained the word "sterling" inside the fish, and a letter L at the fish's mouth. So this maker's mark is somewhat different than that, so I cannot say with any certainty who made the pin. The pin is tarnished and I have not polished it. Otherwise, it is in excellent condition. It was an estate sale purchase and measures 2.5" by 2".
The second owl shown in photos 3 and 4 is made from pewter and is stamped on the back Sweden and with intials that appear to be HR. This cute owl has large yellow glass eyes. The pin is in excellent vintage condition and measures 2.25" by 1.75". It was purchased at the same local estate sale.
The third owl is shown in the last photo and is most likely Native American, with its beautiful inlay work. The eyes are inlaid white mother-of-pearl, the breast is an inlaid brown colored stone, and the wing is black. The pin itself is made from silver and is very, very tarnished.
