Champlin Oil Company was founded in Enid, Oklahoma in 1916 on a single 160-acre lease. By the mid 1920's, it was marketing gasoline & oil in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri & Arkansas.

What you are bidding on here, is an old, guaranteed original 30" double-sided porcelain Champlin Gasoline "Use Champlin Oils" sign. This is a true "in the wild" find. I literally bought it today, out of an old garage near the Cimarron River in Oklahoma. The sign was designed to go in a ring on top of a 3' pole with heavy iron base, commonly referred to as a "lollipop sign". The purpose was to be able to move it in & out daily, whether you put it near the gas pump or near the curb or in the station driveway. As you can see in the pictures, this sign is in great condition, especially when you consider that it dates back to the mid 1920's. In a few of the pictures, I've focused on the amazing color & gloss this nearly 90-year old sign still possesses. The sign was manufactured by the Burdick Enamel Co (see pic). There are no touch-ups, repairs, restorations, clear-coat or any other attempts to alter this sign from it's original condition. The pictures are an accurate representation of the actual condition of the sign, obviously there is one side that is bit better, but typically it's going to be displayed against a wall, but both sides are equally as slick & glossy.

There are no hotter, more desirable, faster appreciating antiques than 30" round porcelain oil & gas signs. I've seen worse examples of this particular logo bring $700+ at auctions, but as with all of my items, I am starting this at .99 Cents WITH NO RESERVE!!!! It will have a new owner at the close of the auction (no early endings!!)regardless of final bid price.
