30s Marbled BAKELITE Flatware or Jewelry Chest Box Sv12 This auction is for an excellent vintage and beautifully ornate silverware chest. It is marbled brown bakelite (tested positive with Simichrome polish) and a must have for any bakelite lover. You could use it for silverware, or repurpose as a jewelry box to house a lot of your bakelite jewelry like bracelets, necklaces, and other collections. The box is in excellent condition for age with no chips cracks, or noticeable scratches to bakelite. A floral medallion in the middle and scrolling leaves adorn the edges. Bottom has vertical rib type pattern. If using for silverware It will easily hold a service for 12 with 11 deep slots in box and 12 slots on lid for knives. No rips or tears to chocolate brown felt-good condition for age-variation in color on inner box is camera glare. Felt on inner lid does have a little variation in color from tarnish from knives. A little storage smell (not musty)that fabreeze or perhaps a pretty perfume would cover if you choose to do so. It it might dissapate with being left open for a week too. It is just from being closed up and the bakelite kept it closed tight. Not that big of a deal I don't think. From a smoke free and probably pet free home. It measures approx. 17 3/4" by 12" and 3 1/2" high. An incredible and large piece of decorative bakelite.
