How differently are we now employed from what we were this time last year. Then we were busily engaged in preparing our new home for occupation. Now we are widely separated and our home is occupied (by) others. Little did we think that we would be so widely separated then. All was bright ahead. Now we can see nothing but the cloud which is hovering over our beloved country and that has interupted so many happy prospects and in a manner destroyed so many happy homes. Just now appears to be the darkest moment. Oh that this war was ended. How many hearts would be made joyous and happy. But for this war we might have been in our dear house but hoping that it may be brought to a speedy close, I will leave the dreary subject.We have just eaten our dinner. It is now four o'clock.
