Up for bid is a 32 piece set of Towle 1959 Debussy sterling silver flatware weighing approximately 44 Troy ounces. The set is in very good condition with no monograms: 6 dinner forks, 419 grams. The forks are 7 3/8" long and have minor usage marks. 6 salad forks, 304 grams. The forks are 6 5/8" long and have minor usage marks. One of the salad forks has a slight bend half way down one outside tine. 6 teaspoons, 251 grams. The teaspoons are 6" long and have minor usage marks.Two of the teaspoons have a higher arch to the curved handle than the other four teaspoons. 1 solid piece gravy ladle, 71 grams. The ladle has minor usage marks. 6 dinner knives with stainless blades, 550 grams. (Assume hollow sterling handle is 50% of weight) = 275 grams. The knives are 9" long and the blades are stamped "TOWLE sterling handle, stainless blade". T are minor usage marks and a few pinpoints of pitting on three of the stainless blades. 6 butter knives with stainless blades, 272 grams. (Assume hollow sterling handle is 50% of weight) = 136 grams. The knives are 6 1/2' inches long. T are minor usage marks and a few pinpoints of pitting on two of the stainless blades. 1 master butter spreader with stainless blade, 46 grams. (Assume hollow sterling handle is 50% of weight) = 23 grams. The spreader is 6 7/8" long and has minor usage marks and a few pinpoints of pitting on the stainless blade. Total sterling weight = 1,479 grams x 0.925 = 1,368 grams of pure silver. 1 Troy ounce = 31.1 grams. Tfore, this flatware set with 1,368 grams of pure silver (approximate weight) = 43.99 Troy ounces of silver. The value of this flatware set at the spot silver price of $20.67/ounce on my listing date was $909.27. Update: The Thursday, March 20/08 price for spot silver has fallen to $16.70/ounce, reducing the value of 43.99 Troy ounces of silver to $734.63. The retail replacement value of this flatware set in excellent condition is $1,507.40. The minor imperfections of this set would reduce the value by about 15% to approximately $1,281.29. Shipping (insured) airmail is $27.00 to California (6 - 7 business days), $22.50 to New York (5 - 6 business days) and $20.00 to British Columbia, Canada (3 business days).
