34 hand sewn double-appliqued cotton muslin stars are configured in 4 horizontal rows onto a wool-silk blend canton that rests on a red `war` or `blood` stripe. Some collectors believe that the canton resting on a red stripe is indicative of the flag been made during a time of war `when mens` blood was being shed.` The cotton sleeve, canton, and cotton stripes are entirely hand-sewn. There are 5 whipped-stitched grommets that are sewn next to the hoist. 2 tassels, one red another blue, with cords are attached to the 1st grommet. Kansas was admitted as the 34th State in 1861. AUCTIONEER`S NOTE: The size of this flag is 50 x 103`
