YOU ARE BIDDING ON A 36 CARD LOT OF 1969 TOPPS FOOTBALL CARDS HISTORY: Due to Topps' success over the last 50+ years with baseball cards, many might think that they got their start in the sports card business that way. Actually, Topps broke in to the sports card market in 1950 with it's "felt back" football issue and from 1955 on, Topps released a full set of football trading cards.Just one year after Topps was granted an official license to portray N.F.L. players, this 263 card set was released. This was the most cards Topps had produced in a football issue to date. For the first time in it's history Topps has decided to forego the standard white border making centering issues a little easier to deal with but on the other hand, even minimal edge and corner damage became increasingly evident. GRADING: I have attempted to present the cards in a manner that will be most representative of their actual condition. I promise you will not be met with any negative surprises upon receipt of this nostalgic lot.I am very conservative in my grading practices. Many other card sellers do not downgrade a card for centering. In my opinion the centering of a card is just as important as wear and other imperfections. Some of the cards I have rated as EXCELLENT +, EXCELLENT, OR VERY GOOD + would be rated higher by others. All cards are visible in the five included scans. Any flaw not visible in a scan will be noted in the accompanying text. THE CARDS: These cards have been stored in a smoke free, dust free environment for nearly 40 years!!T are no duplicates in this lot!Most of these cards (30) have no flaws (in some cases very slight corner or edge wear) and a few of these cards (6) have other flaws (see detailed description below). All of the cards can be seen in photo #1. The cards are placed in the 9-pocket holders in the order as listed below for easy identification.All of the backs are clean and centered in general as the fronts of the cards.Listed below are the card numbers and the condition of each card.Listed Stars included in this lot are John Unitas, Alex Karras, Merlin Olsen, Leroy Kelly (#1 card), Ray Nitschke, Dick Anderson, Charley Taylor, & Jackie Smith. All listed stars are rated either EXCELLENT or EXCELLENT +.REFERENCE: Beckett Football Card Plus March/April 2007 EditionIndividual Cards: Cards in EXCELLENT + (or better) Condition --11, 27, 30, 34 (Olsen), 37 (Lockhart), 40, 44, 54, 57, 59 ( Anderson ), 67 ( Taylor ), 72, 81 (Bass), 90, 107, 119, 123 (Karras), & 129 These cards exhibit very strong corners and are generally very well centered no worse than 85/15.These cards exhibit no creases or other flaws.These cards are visible as all cards in pic/scans #2 & #3. Cards in EXCELLENT condition--1 (Kelly), 4, 25 (Unitas), 39, 43 (J. Smith), 46, 48, 55 (Nitschke), 78, 82, & 88 These cards exhibit strong corners and are generally downgraded for slight edge wear made more visible by the color border.These cards exhibit no creases or other flaws.These cards are visible as all cards in pic/scan #4 and the first two cards in pic/scan #5 Cards in VERY GOOD PLUS condition--98, 109, 132 (Checklist #2) These card are downgraded for the following:Card #98 (Dixon) - has a slight vertical less than 1" crease at the bottom of the card, otherwise very nice, well-centered, strong cornersCard # 109 (Guidry) - has a diagonal production pressure mark that runs the width of the card, also very nice otherwise, well-centered, strong cornersCard #132 (Checklist #2) - Downgraded for edge wear, no creases These cards are visible as the third, fourth, and fifth cards in pic/scan #5.
