Arguably the finest engraving on any World's Columbian medal or coin. This 27mm bronze is prooflike and has an integral loop attached as made. We once had the privilege of selling a pair of this size Lauer proofs, simply spectacular and the only ones we have ever seen. This piece shows hints of prooflike reflectiveness and certainly strike; but the bust and reverse are both so well engraved that even an average strike on this piece would outstrip most any collectible medals of the period.
The bust of Columbus faces left and he is adorned in a cape that has very nice high relief; even Columbus' hair is detailed finer than most medals. The reverse with, perhaps Columbia or maybe Isabella on the globe is the highlight in detail. A great medal that should be alongside a larger Lauer medal, perhaps in gilt, to make any Columbian collection that much finer.
