White glaze coated on the brown earthnware is very artistic! Ken Komotsu was born in 1948, and started studying Hagi ware under a great potter, Seiho Odaka in 1981. And then, he started his own pottery in 1989 and has ever been awarded a lot of prizes for his great works. The seal of the potter is put on the bottom. In addition, the original box, on which the signature of the potter is written, is included, too. This is also a valuable one. Hagi Ware is a type of Japanese pottery most identifiable for its humble forms and use of translucent white glaze. It originated in the early 17th century with the introduction of potters brought back from Japanese invasions of Korea. The local daimyo of the time were very interested in tea ceremony and funded production of this ware. Potters mix different types of local clay.
