Bookmark charactercarl & add to your collection every week. Selling a total of 24 cut out Folk Art Disney figures. This is 2nd Lot: 4 large size cut out wood figures of Mickey Mouse & other Walt Disney characters. The tallest is Horace Horsecollar with an umbrella - 3 1/4". The smallest is Mickey with a baseball bat - 2 1/4". All 4 are in excellent condition. Note 1 has a label on front & 2 have typewritten labels on back. Hand made. Using paper cut from vintage 1930s newspaper strips & comic books & story books & carefully mounted on wood which was then cut using a jigsaw device to create these uniques figures. The wood was painted & then the entire figure was coated with shellac. The figures are mounted on the round bases with a mortise & tenon joint which means a square peg on the bottom of the figure is inserted into a corrsponding hole in the base. Producing each of these figures by hand was a monumental task. Each figure probably took 2+ hours from start to finish. The work was done by a now anonymous hobbyist in Pennsylvania circa late 1930s thru the 40s. A true labor of love - or perhaps just an outlet for obssesive compulsive behavior!
