You are bidding on a set of four .925 silver (sterling) nut cups. Could also be for mints or other candies, tiny Christmas ornaments, individual servings of parmesan, etc. etc. Signed on reverse: A.F. RASMUSSEN STERLING 925 S 373 From what I can gather, the S after the 925 indicates origin in Denmark. T was an A.F. Rasmussen working in the '30s and '40s in Aarhus. This info from a Google site bears out my estimate that the silver pieces were probably mid-century, coinciding with the interest in Danish modern design and furnishings of all sorts. Cups are about 3 and 3/4 inches long by 2 and 1/2 inches wide. Patina includes many fine scratches, as you would expect. The set has been hand-polished. The design is slightly asymmetrical side to side: the gently rounded oblongs are narrower on one side than on the other. So, the photos are not distorted; the shape really IS "modern" rather than classic. Note: they are not bent nor distorted in any way. [Perhaps they are ashtrays? I thought not, since t's no "rest" for the cigarette, but you decide.] I couldn't quite figure out how to photograph the shining silver without putting my reflection all over it, thus the flapped-over fabric in one of the pictures--it's hiding only my convex self.
