We are offering 3 typed letters signed and one handwritten note, signed by Dard Hunter - the famous authority on hand-made paper and the history of paper. The 3 typed letters are all written from Chillicothe, Ohio w Hunter lived and worked for many years at his Mountain House home. They are dated April 26, October 8 and October 24, 1921. The handwritten note is dated 8/16/23. The subject of the correspondence is Ohio Archaeology, with references to Fowke's History of Ohio and the famous mounds which Hunter is personally familiar with which are located all around Chillicothe. Dard Hunter is corresponding with a Mr. Harrison Elliott, paper company executive, based on Broad St. in New York. He writes in the first letter (actually directed to Mr. Elliott's secretary) that he is sending along a copy of Gerard Fowke's great book on Ohio Archaeology. He says that it is "the best book that exists on this subject and I have been trying ever since I came home to locate a copy." The October 8 typed letter signed has a fairly humorous description of Mr. Fowke: "I understand that he still wears high boots and carries an umbrella on all occasions, as formally. He is indeed a most picturesque figure with a remarkable personality." The October 24 letter speaks again of Dr. Fowke: "He is over six feet tall, and with his fine grey beard and wonderfully read more
