No reserve. These 4 original vintage farm lard hog brochures go way back into the late 1800's and were found in an attic in Bushnell, Illinois. Three brochures measure 11" by 8" (the other one is slightly smaller) and advertise W.E. Spicer's grand champion boars. ( Spicer was a VERY WELL KNOWN hog producer from Bushnell, Illinois in the late 1800's)The first brochure shows the Silver Cup Award winning group of yearling Berkshires shown at the 1892 Iowa State Fair.. In full. the ad says....."ROYAL DUKE 27065, ARTFUL BELLE 7TH 27947, ARTFUL BELLE 8TH 27948, ARTFUL BELLE 9TH 27949, ARTFUL BELLE 10TH 27950. Group of Prize Winning Yearling Berkshires, Bred, Fed, and Exhibited by W.E. SPICER, BUSHNELL, ILLINOIS, combined weight 2600 pounds at 17 months. Winners of Silver Cup over all breeds at Iowa State Fair in 1892, w t were over 2,200 head of hogs on exhibition, the largest exhibit of hogs ever made in the world up to the time. The above engraving was made from a photograph." The second brochure shows another Silver Cup Award winning group of yearling Berkshires shown at the 1895 Iowa State Fair. In full, the ad says..."ARTFUL BELLE XXXVI 33049, ROYAL DUTCHESS XXV 33074, ARTFUL BELLE XL 33053, ARTFUL BELLE XXXV, BELLE KNIGHT IV 33059. Group of Prize Winning Yearling Berkshires, Bred, Fed, and Exhibited by W. E. Spicer, Bushnell, Illinois. Combined wieght over 3,000 pounds, winners of Silver Cup over all breeds at the Iowa State Fair in 1895, when 2584 head of swines were on exhibition, the largest exhibit of swine ever made in the world."The third brochure advertises W.E. Spicer's grand champion boar which was shown at the CHICAGO WORLD'S FAIR in 1893. In full, the ad says: "BLACK KNIGHT 30003 Grand Champion Boar, World's Fair Chicago, 1893. He also won 17 other First and Champion prizes in 1892 and 1894 in the best shows in America. Defeating every boar he met. The Standard Type that the Berkshires have been bred for the last 150 years." Also, in the brochure, is an advertisement for Southdown sheep that W.E. Spicer raised.The fourth brochure measures 9 5/8" x 6" and shows another of W.E. Spicer's lard hogs named KNIGHT TEMPLAR 59146 at 7 years. Boy...have pigs changed since the "lard hog" days!!!!!! These items are all in excellent condition, especially for their age. They would look great framed. You are bidding on all 4 items together as a group.
