For your consideration is the second of four rare groups of 8 x 10 inch photos I am putting up on ebay this week which detail a lesser seen aspect of WWII: The US fight against Germany off the coast of Greenland. This lot contains two photos which show efforts to trap and capture an armed German trawler, and two which detail the capture of German weather & radio stations. One shows US soldiers eating captured German food and having a little shindig on the ice. I've searched long and hard for comparable images and have determined that these and the others I am posting this week are quite scarce. Each photo has a full description on back (see photos below for further details). These are original photos snapped, developed and disseminated to news organisations during the war, not later reproductions. They were formerly in thecollection of long-defunct Washington D.C. newspaper, the WashingtonEvening Star. The gentleman I bought these from worked at the newspaper and saved them from the trash when the paper decided to clean house some years after the war. According to him, the newspaper, as well as other local news organisations, received a much wider variety of press/propaganda photos than their counterparts around the country due to their close proximity to the Department of War/War Information in Washington D.C... hence, these and read more
