~ This vintage, 88" by 82" red wool blanket has four points, and a black stripe at each end. It also has an added-on, camper-style, fabric name tag, but the one thing that it doesn't have...is a label. T's a rectangle, 3 1/4" long by 1 1/8" wide, with stitches, indicating w a label used to be. We have no history or provenance on this blanket, so we don't know what brand it is, or who the manufacturer was. In some ways it does resemble certain styles of older, trade blankets...but we realize that many companies made this sort of wool blanket with points and stripes...
~ T's insect damage , in the form of multiple small holes, scattered throughout the blanket, some in clusters. The holes range from tiny ones of 1/8" up to a couple that are about 1/2" around.
~ Plus some age/use wear is apparent along the edges of the blanket, mostly in the form of unraveled blanket-stitches. We've provided photos of examples of the edge wear, and of insect holes, and each photo would also represent other, similar areas of wear. Despite the flaws, in our opinion this blanket still retains a strong authentic appearance, especially considering its age! But this is something that any potential bidders would have to decide for themselves...
~ In our photos, we have the blanket on a double bed. It's a handsome and substantial covering, despite the age/use, and weighs over five pounds by itself. The wool had some evidence of small, thin, white hairs - such as from a dog or cat. We eliminated as many as we could with our lint-removal gadget, but we wanted to mention that fact in consideration of persons who might have pet hair allergies...
~ POTENTIAL USES: It still displays well, is a very sturdy and warm bed covering, and has been aired out in the sun.It would provide a rustic, practical, and old fashioned accent to a cabin, bunkhouse, cottage, or camp. Also this original, vintage wool blanket can lend an authentic decor touch to a vintage bedroom or den - as a furniture covering, or in front of the fireplace...
