I was fortunate to come across a large grouping of wonderful old hand painted Satsuma wisteria porcelain and have been selling them throughout the past few weeks. THIS IS NUMBER ONE OF THE TWO LAST LISTINGS FOR THIS SET , so please check out my other auction in which I am listing a VERY RARE Wisteria Gravy Boat and Tray. Each of these plates is hand made and no two pieces are exactly alike. In fact, even though the sizes of certain plates are very close, t is a very slight difference in diameter between them. The quality is amazing and the porcelain is beautifully translucent. Each item has an unusual deep ring base (almost footed) and is marked with what I believe is the Tanzan, Awata-Kyoto School calligraphy. I'm sure you will agree with me when I say that reading Satsuma marks, especially when the marks are hand painted, can be a challenge. You will not be disappointed with these magnificently painted works of art. The delicate flowers in raised slip of deep lavender and white and the lacy foliage design give the wisteria a 3D effect, and the shadowy moon in the background, gives the whole landscape a wonderfully romantic feel. Each item is delicately rimmed in gold. They are all in wonderful condition with only slight wear on the gold edge.
