When the brothers George and William Penrose founded the Waterford Glass House in 1783, they made a bold promise - to make crystal of "as fine a quality as any in Europe in the most elegant style." They knew the old secrets of skillfully combining glass and minerals to create a crystal with beautiful and mysterious qualities that radiated a very distinctive, silvery white brilliance, which Waterford's artists further enhanced with deeply-cut ornamentation.
