.40 caliber percussion, 14 1/2-inch round, heavyweight rifled patent breech barrel, measuring 7/8-inch diameter at muzzle. Front sight of Beach style, with post within hood, and when folded down, with blade, the whole on base dovetailed at muzzle. Rear peep style sight adjustable for elevation, with turnkey in barrel at left side of breech. Pivoting barrel and brass two-part frame, released by pressing catch pivoting within aperture cut into top of stock at wrist. Barrel assembly pivots downward and fits into neatly curved slot on bottom of varnished mahogany stock. Crescent shaped brass buttplate. Hammer mounted in brass frame, pivots back and is released, without trigger mechanism. Steel parts likely browned, the barrel breech case-hardened. Overall length 28 5/8-inches. Length when folded together, 15 15/16-inches. 700 - 900
