This 48-piece set of depression glass dinnerware belonged to my grandmother and was later given to my mother. These dishes were made by the Hazel Atlas Glass Company of Clarksburg, West Virginia, and Zanesville, Ohio, from 1934 to 1942. The pattern is Moderntone and the color is Cobalt Blue. The set includes one Berry Bowl (8-3/4" diameter), one Creamer, eight Cups, six Sherbet Plates (5-7/8" diameter), nine Dinner Plates (8-7/8" diameter), one 11" Oval Platter, one pair Salt & Pepper Shakers with metal caps, one Sandwich Plate (10-1/2" diameter), ten Saucers (5-1/2" diameter), eight Sherbet Cups, and one Sugar Bowl. These forty-eight pieces are in excellent condition. (T are an additional three dinner plates with chips that are included with the purchase of the 48-piece set, but the damaged plates are not included in the counts above or the value below.) If you consult Warman's Depression Glass, 3rd Ed., by Ellen T. Schroy (Krause Publications, Iola, WI 2003) you will have a book value of $857.50 on this set. I can remember eating my grandma's biscuits and gravy off these plates forty years ago, and drinking grape juice out of the blue "wine glasses" (sherbet dishes) when I was a little boy. These dishes have been in only one family, from my grandma to my mom to me, and they are the real deal. This is a great set for a collector or a great way to start a new collection. Everything has been securely packaged and the set will be shipped in three separate boxes.
