500 Emirati Dirhams @ $136 US Dollars (permanently pegged at about $0.272 per Dirham) For auction is a group of current Arab Emirates coins with a face value of 500 Dirhams in denominations of 50 fils and 1 Dirham (mostly 1 Dirham). The coins are in normal circulation condition and would be good for collection, deposit in the Emirates, or travel/holiday money. With the world's 7th largest oil reserves (source: CIA.gov), the Arab Emirates are a hub of commerce in the Middle East and are a gateway to West Asia and Africa. You should have no trouble finding things to spend these on in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, or the other four Emirates. Interestingly, the term "dirham" is derived from the Greek word Drachmae, literally meaning "handful", through Latin - it was a word adopted by the Arabs due to centuries of trade routes from East to West.
