Letters start in late 1942 and end in January 1945. I have not read all of the letters. The letters that I have read are very interesting. They talk about the war, daily life, fishing, hunting, farming, how the war affected their daily life. T are other letters from soldiers that talk about women, drinking, horse play and the War. From what I read, I understand that the Pvt. joined the Air Corp and tried to become a pilot. T is a typed letter instructing him to report to the Aviation Cadet Examining Board. I think he was shipped out before he got the results on the exam. I think he was in a engineer unit? All I know was that he was first shipped to North Africa and then India, and later to Burma. It seems that he also took part in the building of the Ledo Road in Burma. Serious Bidders only!! Updated - During 1943 the Pvt. starts training in Atlantic City, NJ. He is then transferred to Greensboro, NC. After this he is transferred to California w he starts his real training. In his letters he describes some of this training, qualifies as a sharpshooter. At the end of 1943 he is getting ready to be sent overseas. He then serves in 1875th Engineer Aviation Battalion T are about a dozen pictures of his family, friends, dogs and fellow soldiers. The following quotes are from /Story_ledoroadledoroadledoroad.html "In November 1944, the 1875th Engineer Aviation Battalion was given the honor of linking the Ledo Road with the road to Bhamo, a prewar, dry-weather track that ran south to the old Burma Road and needed only improvement to meet the all-weather specifications of the Ledo Road." "Christmas 1944, the third on the road for the engineers, was a busy time with the Chinese and American forces pushing the attack to link up with the Chinese from Yunnan and the engineers following close behind, upgrading the final stretches of the road. However, for the men of the 1875th Engineers and the 124th Cavalry t was a brief respite. As the 124th passed through the 1875th camp, the engineers thought the cavalrymen looked as if they needed cheering up. They invited them into their camp to share the festivities of the day. Candy and cake, packages from home, PX supplies and the battalion's beer ration all combined to make it a memorable event. Then it was back to the war." Also the is a book titled: Building for Victory: World War II in China, Burma, and India and the 1875th Engineer Aviation Battalion by William C. King. Also from http://www.hq.usace.army.mil/History/bridge1.htm "On February 13th, the 1875th Engineer Aviation Battalion landed at Bombay, India, and moved to Dudhkundi w it began to convert the old Royal Air Force field to B-29 superfortress standards. On 20 June 1944, a B-29 pilot landed on the new runway at Dudhkundi by mistake, thus establishing the runway as operational and ready for launching long-range bombers into the Japanese homeland."
