In the masterful manner of Ledesma … Based on a work by prestigious Taxco designer Enrique Ledesma, called “Fish Against a Tortoise Sea Pin,” this modernist pin also was handwrought by a skilled Taxco artisan. Composed of .925 silver and crushed stone aggregate, the freeform, slightly convex piece depicts two highly stylized silver fish surrounded by eight tiny air bubbles, floating against a sea-green ground. The silver inlays are set perfectly flush with the stone mosaic, and boast superb cutwork and piercing. Dating to the 1950’s, this is a fabulous jewelry piece and fine collectible. Hallmarks: STERLING , 925 , TAXCO {circle}; APB {inside circle}; Eagle assay stamp #3 {silhouetted}. This hallmark is cited in Bille Hougart’s The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks . Dimensions: 1-1/2” x 2”. WEIGHT: 8.6 grams. Condition: Excellent vintage condition, definitely collector quality. BOOK PIECE: This pin is pictured on page156 in Mexican Silver Jewelry Details by Leslie Pina and the Ledesma original in silver and tortoise shell is shown on page 196, figure IV-88, in Silver Masters of Mexico by Penny C.
