52+ Troy Ounces of Sterling Silver from 1970-71 Franklin Mint State Set Over 52 Troy Ounces of Sterling Silver in the form of a Franklin Mint set of States of the Union Medals issued in 1970-71 (50 Sterling Silver Rounds of 500 grains) Up for auction is a complete set of sterling silver medals issued by the Franklin Mint depicting each of the 50 States of the Union. The obverse of the medal has the state’s nickname, capital city and symbol over a backdrop of the state. The reverse shows the state’s flower and date of statehood inside a wreath. Only 866 sets of this edition were issued by the Franklin Mint between 1970 and 1971. Each medal is 39mm in diameter and weighs 500 grains, which is over 52 troy ounces of sterling silver in the complete set. The medals appear to be in mint to proof state and have been kept in individual cardboard holders, inside plastic pages to an album as depicted in the photos.
