Kock & Bergfeld Continental 800 Sterling Silver Circa 1890 Aesthetic High Relief Pistol Grip Design 6 Fruit or Dessert Knives All Sterling Knives with Gold Washed Engraved Blades Excellent Condition These drop dead gorgeous knives are hallmarked with the Kock & Bergfeld chalice mark along with "800" on the blade reverse. Founded in 1829 in Bremen, Germany, Kock & Bergfeld was a highly fashionable silversmith catering to the social elite's growing taste for ornate and distinctive flatware. They were especially active during the Aesthetic movement period and contributed many famous designs to include the Gothic Revival style pattern of these knives. The reverse is also marked "PH Wondra" which is most probably the name of the jeweler who retailed the knives. The knives measures about 6 3/4" long and weigh about .9 oz each. The blades are The pistol grip handles are accented with four bands of high relief medieval style scrolls and shields separated by thin bands of gilt accent. The gilt blade is engraved with more scrolls that beautifully echo the handle's scrolls. One of the blades has a small 1/4" area w the gilt is getting a little light, otherwise, the gilt is intact on all 6 knives. All of the blades have some light surface scratches consistent with gentle and infrequent use. T are no dings, gouges, bends, repairs or monograms. The figural details are deep and crisp. The knives are brilliantly shiny and table ready. These knives are perfect for fruit and dessert, but also make handy butter or cheese knives or hors d'oeuvre servers. In any capacity, they are sure to lend a beautifully distinctive touch to your holiday table. I've also listed a ice cream or sorbet spoon set and a berry spoon set by the same maker this week. These items are all part of a truly amazing lifetime collection of antique sterling and silverplate that I will be offering over the next 2 months. I estimate t are well over 150 items spanning the entire range of silver design - from whimsical and naturalistic to crisp Irish design. They belong to a wonderful couple who started collecting back in the early 80's and were early and enthusiastic sponsors of the Dallas Museum of Art's exceptional silver collection. They are preparing to move into a retirement community, and it's now time to share their treasures with some lucky new collectors.
Please check my other listings for more of this awesome collection and check back often as I'll be listing more items from their exquisite silver collection every Sunday... ...and all items will start at LOW, LOW openings with no reserve! And now for the fine print... Buyer Satisfaction and Returns I am an enthusiastic buyer as well as seller on eBay and I know first hand about the wide range of "listing accuracy" on eBay and of the disappointment of receiving an item that fails to meet your expectations. So I work very hard to give correct and detailed information in my listings. I am extra picky because I want you to be very happy with your purchase. Even though I try to provide enough pictures and information to accurately describe an item, I may miss something that is important to you as a collector. So I encourage you to ask any questions prior to bidding as all of my sales are final unless I have misrepresented the item. As a professional antiques dealer though, I do guarantee the age and authenticity of my items 100%. Due to the nature of eBay, I will make every effort to answer all questions quickly and thoroughly. If I need to contact the original owner to answer your question however, please allow 24 hours for my response. If I have made a description error in the listing, please contact me within 3 days of item receipt and return the item to me within 7 days. I will respond promptly and professionally to resolve the issue and I will issue you a full refund for the purchase price once I receive the item back in "as sent" condition. I do maintain micro pictures of my items...
