Matchlessantiques offers collectors and smiths this Beautiful Fisher & Norris Blacksmith Double Screw Parallel Leg Vise. 1885 American Machinist Weekly Advertisement, (Eagle Anvil Works speaking of the vise) "Warranted stronger grip than any other vise. Always parallel and cannot be broken." 1899 Catalog Advertisement states this about the vise, "The Jaws are of best Tool Cast Steel, Welded on, file cut and properly hardened. The Screws are forged of the best Refined Iron, and work in solid cut thread boxes. The lower screw maintains the parallel position of the two jaws, by having exact t??tion with the upper working screw, through the connecting chain which regulates it. The chain is very accurately made of steeled links and rivets, and, having no stain of the work upon it, is tfore as durable as all the other parts". This vise is a Number "4" and it is also marked with the name "FISHER". This vise is in excellent working condition. T is a little play in the top screw and box, but I think that may be normal. The screws show little wear. The chain has some play, but seems to work fine. T are no broken parts that I can see. The jaws still have some crosshatching, one jaw has some chips on the top edge. The reason these vises were popular, is because of the parallel jaws, that gave a tighter grip than the conventional leg vises. I am offering a money back guarantee if not completely satisfied, does not include shipping. Fisher and Norris was founded in 1843 and produced anvils for 136 years. Fisher became famous for perfecting the process of welding cast steel on high grade cast iron. All information is credited to Richard Postman's Book, "Anvils In America".
