SIX GERMAN IMPERIAL NAVY BOOKS WILLY STÖWER ART COLLECTION!

FOUR TRULY RARE BOOKS/COLOR PLATES/TONS OF PICS/14 lbs./c)1901+

This is a collection of German imperial navy books with naval art by German painter Willy Stöwer, Kaiser Wilhelm II's decorated painter. T are four antiquarian books and two important and illustrated reference books, which are very useful for anyone who collects books containing Willy Stöwer's art work. They also offer informative biographies and many color prints of his marvellous paintings. I shall describe the four rare antique books in more detail:

1) Kaiser Wilhelm II. und die Marine (= Emperor Wilhelm II and the Navy): First edition. Published in 1912 by August Scherl GmbH in Berlin, Germany, and conceived in honor of the Kaiser's 25th-year anniversary of his rule in 1913. Edited and dedicated by Professor Willy Stöwer (and loaded with his paintings and sketches). Written by Admiralitätsrat Georg Wislicenus. A rather large book, measuring nearly 11 x 14 inches. Linen covers. 207 thick pages with 120 in-text drawings of naval motifs and ten huge (double page) and absolutely gorgeous color plates, which measure nearly 19 x 13 1/2 inches with 1 1/2-inch margins (see sample pictures # 1, 2 and 4). In good used condition with wavy pages, rusty staples, and a few slight tears and splits. Definitely a very rare and valuable book.

2) Deutsche U-Boot-Taten (= German U-Boat Deeds): First edition. Edited by Willy Stöwer and the German Reichsmarine Foundation in Berlin, Germany. Published in 1916 by Galerie Verlag in Berlin. Contains 20 thick pages with 10 truly stunning color plates of German u-boats (incl. famous U 9). Pages on the left host a short explanatory narrative about each image's history. The ten plates measure 6 1/2 x 9 inches (see sample pictures # 5 - 8). Awesome cover. This book with naval u-boat art by Willy Stöwer is in very good condition. Very rare book.

3) Deutschlands Seemacht (= Germany's Naval Power): Second revised and significantly expanded edition. Published in 1901 by Friedrich Wilhelm Grunow in Leipzig, Germany. Written by Kapitänleutnan Georg Wislicenus. 320 pages with 65 in-text drawings and 8 color plates showing paintings by Willy Stöwer. In good used condition. The plates are wavy (see sample picture # 10). The cover image appears a bit faded (see picture # 9). Very rare book.

4) Deutschlands Seemacht (= Germany's Naval Power): Third revised and significantly expanded edition. Published in 1909 by Friedrich Wilhelm Grunow in Leipzig, Germany. Written by Kapitänleutnan Georg Wislicenus. 356 pages with 89 in-text drawings and 10 nice color plates showing paintings by Willy Stöwer. In good condition, however, the front cover's right edge is damaged (see picture # 11) and the first ten pages show water stains in the right margins. Very rare book.

5) Willy Stöwer: Marinemaler der Kaiserzeit (= Willy Stöwer: Naval Artist of the Imperial Kaiser Era): First edition. Published in 2001 by Koehlers in Hamburg, Germany. A large biography and naval-art book, measuring 9 1/2 x 12 inches. 159 pages with about 55 b&w and 125 beautiful color pictures paying tribute to Stöwer's amazing talent. This book itself is easily worth over $50. It is in near-mint condition with its original dust jacket in great shape. Simply a stunning book. An absolute must for the collector of books depicting Stöwer's art.

6) Willy Stöwer : Marinemaler und Illustrator der Kaiserzeit (= Willy Stöwer: Naval Artist and Illustrator of the Imperial Kaiser Era): This is a softcover art guide published for an exhibit that took place at the German Naval museum in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, from January 30 - May 14, 2000. Besides hosting over 100 b&w and color pictures of Stöwer's art (see sample picture # 12), it contains a biography of his works. Some pages pages are damaged by water and tears from sticking together but the important sections are intact. It's a great reference book.
