Accepting bids for an extremely scarce set of six photographs of French General De Gaulle, five of which include British Field Marshall, Bernard Montgomery.They are all real press photos (real photos, not repros) received by the Washington Evening Star newspaper during the war. The guy Ibought these from worked at the newspaper and saved these from thetrash when the paper decided to clean house some years after the war. According to him, the newspaper, as well as other local news organisations, received a much wider variety of press photos than rivals around the country due to their close proximity to the Department of War/War Information in Washington D.C. Hence, many of these may be quite rare. The one with De Gaulle by himself, is 7 x 9 inches and shows the general waving goodbye to New Yorkers at La Guardia Airport (after being made 'an honorary citizen' of New York) en route to Chicago on 8/27/1945. It was distributed by Acme Newspictures to local American news organisations, very few of which, I imagine, published them, let alone kept them. While exceedingly scarce in the US, I imagine real examples of this photograph are practically unheard of in Europe.
