Set of Six (6) Vintage Chinese 90 Silver Spoons Lee Yee Hing -- Early 20th Century Up for your consideration this week is this set of six (6) 900 Silver Iced Tea Spoons . All are in excellent condition All jade is hand carved, of medium color and in perfect condition (with no chips or cracks). The spoons have light general wear and some "stirring" wear to the bowl tips. Top character is believed to mean "Good Fortune" in Chinese -- beautiful lettering in a beaded frame, bamboo stem reaching to the bowl. Each spoon weighs in at 16.8 grams , 8" in length , bowl dimensions 1-1/2" long x 1-1/6" wide. About the stamps : All six are clearly marked on the back of the character piece: "90" and "LYH". In consulting the Online Encyclopedia of Silver Marks, it is believed that this is most likely an earlier mark of Lee Yee Hing of Hong Kong, early 20th century (20th century meaning 1901-2000). My father remembers buying these in the Phillipines around 1946. About the silver : Although these are listed under sterling, these are actually 900 silver. Webster's Dictionary says that the proportion of silver in these alloys is stated in terms of fineness, which means parts of silver per thousand of the alloy.
