This unique and rare beautiful wooden roll top box with the tulip flower measures 2" tall, 6" wide, and 3 1/2" inches in depth. It is natural colored wood with a hand painted red and pink tulip with green leaves on the lid. It has a band of red, green, blue, and white squares around the center of the sides, and a red and purple butterfly buzzing the tulip. It has a roll top lid with the first slat being a bit loose, but works correctly with a little metal handle. I believe it was made as a table top cigarette dispenser, but could be used for trinkets or anything you like. No chips, no cracks, no repairs. Other than the mentioned slat is like it left the factory 60 years ago. It is stamped on the bottom in black MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN. (see photo) Decorative roll top box addition for any collection. NO RESERVE History: One half of all items produced in Japan after World War II from late 1945 until early 1952 for export to the U.S. and elsew in the world, were required by law to be marked with the words “Occupied Japan”, or “Made in Occupied Japan” in some form. This law was introduced by General Douglas MacArthur as a way to help the American people and other Countries accept and purchase imports from the spurned and defeated nation of Japan. This would allow the Japanese people to gain a grip on their economic recovery. Other than the distinct hallmark, t is little proof to authenticate an item from the period.
