An extroadinary piece of history letter and cover. #65 with Old Point Comfort, Va pmk on extremely rare patriotic cover "History of our Flag" red and blue flag and a explanation of the history of our flag. This is very cool history lesson. This is an extremely rre design. The Nutmeg/Bischel catalog says there are only 3 recorded. There is a fantastic letter that accompanies the letter from a soldier at Camp Winfield Scott, before Yorktown, Army of the Potomac, April 25, 1862. Letter from a soldier to his mother. Had no stamps to write, sailed from Alexandria to Fortress Monroe and marched to Yorktown and battled the rebels at half past ten A.M. and fought until 5 P.M. Relieved by the Mass Artillery. They lost one man, but harder fighting than at Bull Run. Thinks business war well soon close, have been in fight twice, putting up fortifications, getting ready to strike the last blow, we are mounting some very heavy guns here, somme 100 lbs rifled pieces. "The Catalog of Union Civil War Patriotic Covers" written by Bill Weiss is considered the standard catalog for these covers, listing and illustrating over 5,000 designs with excellent cross-references to Walcott and Nutmeg and with a handy price guide. "This is a book I have used myself for many years, and I recommend it to collectors very highly". More info available by contacting the author (address on request)".
