Here is my much loved VW Beetle 'Herb'. He is a rare 1965 beetle that is has never been restored and as of today (12/10/2013) has just passed another MOT just fine. I'm only his 5th owner from new and I have spent a small fortune on him in the last couple of years to just improve him so I could use him as my every day car if I needed to, which I never had to. He just used to get driven on pleasure runs or days out at the beach. There is a 2inch narrowed front beam, with drop spindles and a very expensive CSP front Disc brake kit. It's also had an alternator conversion 12v, new carb, empi exhaust, empi shifter, pan cake filter, new shocks, new BRM alloys with new tyres, narrow on the front chunkier on the rear. Its also lowered on the rear. I've also had the engine fully gone through which is a vega replacement, and regularly serviced. The interior has been replaced with a red vinyl one which looks really smart and like the original I would of imagined. He has rubber matted floors which I think are original and the original radio that still works. The head lining is good but is missing under the rear window. I've also replaced the doors, boot and bonnet seals. I have mountains of receipts and history for him dating back to the late 1960's!! Also as far as I know he is still on his original number plate. When he is cold he can take abit of cranking to get going but runs and starts fine when warm. Been told this is because of the pancake filter but probably could do with abit of a tune-up aswell. There are various areas of minor rust, the paint is faded and well worn with some repainted areas and the bumpers have surface rust. I think it looks lovely as he does as he is so genuine and gets plenty of people looking at him and talking to you about him. I think its got great character and patina with the look completed by a 'period' roof rack. The only welding it has ever had is new heater channels and rear bumper mounts. This was done long before I owned him apart from one bumper mount. When this one done I had the whole underside undersealed for protection. All the work I have had done to her has been carried out at a well regarded classic VW garage in Bristol called 'V-Dub Resto'. Also at some point the speedo has been changed to one from a slightly later model. The only reason I'm selling him is I've moved away to Scotland and have lost the storage he was being kept in so i have decided that it would be best to sell him to someone who would use him and love him. He has hardly been used in the last 9 months but once started drove fine to the MOT station where it passed its MOT with only one advisory, 'slight play at the steering wheel'. Last years MOT he had no advisories. As Im now living over 300 miles from Bristol my Brother-in-law will be handling the collection and viewings however he knows nothing of Beetles or much about cars for that matter. He will have all the paper work for when the beetle sales as at the moment I have it. He drives well and has been very reliable and will be sorely missed. He comes with 12 MONTHS MOT and 12 MONTHS TAX (free) so he can be driven away. All 4 tyres are just like new. Please no time wasters, cash on collection only within 10 days unless otherwise agreed.
