To view my Private Collection and stay updated on current inventory, like me on Instagram @fordite_fix and Facebook at ForditeFixI'm very excited to present 1968-1969 GM fordite, Detroit agate. I found a small amount of this ultra rare material, so don't miss out. All of this material takes a mirror like finish and makes excellent cabochons.Beautiful vintage GM colors. Awesome layering. Freeform specimen design. Back not polished. Weighs 3.4 grams or 17 carats. Size 34.5mm x 16mm x 6mm (at widest points)Fordite, which is also known as Detroit agate, is automobile paint that has built up layer by layer on the metal racks and skids that transported car bodies through the paint shop in Detroit. Each coat was baked hard numerous times as the layers built up. Recently, this material is gaining popularity as unique and beautiful cabochons that are a cool recycled piece of American automotive history.I can drill simple holes in most of these stones for a five dollar fee. Please do not pay until you have requested the service and received an invoice. Most of these cabs have tiny flaws in the surface of the paint. Maybe dirt or air was trapped between the layers. If any are eye catching I try to mention them and photo them. The close ups are taken with 10x magnification. I take these pics with a cell phone so colors generally look brighter
