You are bidding on a well-made repro .69 caliber musket bayonet for the early war 1842 pumpkin-slingers as used by many Northern state militia units and widely captured and used by the Confederacy throughout the war. It fits perfectly on my original ’42 so, yes, it is a 69 cal bayonet. The bayonet was used in the movie, “Gettysburg.” It is a quality item with the only marking being the correctly stamped “US” (complete with serifs as it’s supposed to be.) There is NO “Made in Italy “or “India” stamp on this piece, so it was either properly made in the US of A or ‘defarbed’ at extra cost. The locking ring is machined like the original, not stamped out of thin, bent sheet metal. When I first got this (also second hand), my first quick glance had me questioning if it was an original. It is developing a pleasant, smooth light patina around the socket, and there is some staining on the blade (no pitting) which could be easily removed with emery if you are portraying a federal unit run by a spit-and-polish martinet, or you could keep it the way it is for a Confederate impression, so you don’t look like a “new fish”.
